2015 All State Mariachi
In celebration of our 16th anniversary, Texas State University’s Feria del Mariachi is very excited to announce our second annual Texas All-State Mariachi for high school students!
Students audition by submitting videos via an untitled YouTube link. Selections are made in early February and all music is emailed to them at that time. Students are taught by our guest clinician, Sergio Caratachea of Mariachi Internacional Guadalajara, Juan Ortiz of Campanas de America and a team of dedicated and talented teachers.
Our goal is to create an elite and highly talented ensemble that represents the best of the best in Texas high school mariachi. We are certain that this will be a magnificent and unforgettable experience for all involved.
2015 Guest Clinician - Sergio Caratachea
Sergio Caratachea was born in Jalisco, Mexico.
He currently serves as the music director for the world renowned Mariachi Internacional Guadalajara.
Mr. Caratachea is recognized in the international world of mariachi as a violinist, composer, pedagogue, arranger, and musical director.
He has taught many of the members of today’s most recognized mariachis; has been commissioned to compose and arrange for the same ensembles; and has recorded with Vicente Fernández, Lola Beltrán, and Lucha Villa, among many others.
Maestro Caratachea is also an accomplished classical violinist.
He has performed with the Orquesta de la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and is currently violin professor in the program “Música Maestro” of the Education Secretariat of Jalisco.

- 1 female vocalist (plus 1 alternate)
- 1 male vocalist (plus 1 alternate)
- 6 violins (plus 1 alternate)
- 3 trumpets (plus 1 alternate)
- 1 guitarrón (plus 1 alternate)
- 1 vihuela (plus 1 alternate)
- 2 guitars - one may be golpe (plus 1 alternate)
- 1 harp (plus 1 alternate)
NOTE: All members of the mariachi will be expected to sing coros.
