LMS Event Descriptions

Salsa Nights

Each semester the salsa ensembles, Salsa del Rio & Orquesta del Rio provide 2-3 salsa concerts. These Salsa Nights are open to the public and set in club settings to promote dancing. Audiences for these performances are a unique mixture of university and community salsa music lovers.

Noche de Mariachi

Each semester, Mariachi Nueva Generación and Mariachi Lince de Oro perform their semester repertoire in a joint concert. These concerts are held at Evans Auditorium on the TXST campus and are open to the public. Furthermore, to inspire and recruit mariachi students from the Central Texas area, local HS and MS groups are invited to participate.

Salsa Tribute Concert

Each spring, the salsa ensembles honor the music and life of a legendary salsa artist. The Latin Music Studies area chooses artists that have had significant and impactful contributions to the genre. The concerts are held at the TXST PAC and are open to the public.

Feria del Mariachi

Each spring, the mariachi ensembles present our yearly mariachi festival. This event provides and ensemble competition to Texas MS and HS groups as well as an evening concert. All events are open to the public and held at the TXST Patty Strickel Harrison Theatre. On selected years, Feria del Mariachi also presents their “Voz de Oro” award to an artist that has significant and impactful contributions to the genre.

Merry-Achi Christmas

Each December, the mariachi ensembles present a Christmas concert for the TXST and San Marcos community. This concert features performances by Mariachi Nueva Generación, Mariachi Lince de Oro and our Youth Mariachi program, Mariachi Infantil. All events are open to the public and held at the TXST Patty Strickel Harrison Theatre.
